Dangote Cement Plc, the continent’s largest cement manufacturer, has been honoured with the “Cement Company of the Year” award at the recently concluded Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja .
The prestigious accolade recognizes Dangote Cement’s instrumental role in bolstering real estate development across Africa. As a major sponsor of the four-day exhibition — which featured participants from 21 countries and saw over 40,000 exhibitors — the company’s contributions were lauded by event organizers and government officials alike .
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, representing the Governor, described Dangote Cement as “a household name and the pride of Africa” . Meanwhile, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmad Musa Dangiwa, commended the company's efforts in advancing Nigeria’s economic growth and housing sector and encouraged continued collaboration to address the nation’s housing deficit .
The Coordinator of the Housing Show, Festus Adebayo, emphasized that innovation and public-private-partnerships (PPPs) are key to tackling housing challenges — especially amid rapid technological shifts in construction and financing .
Dolapo Alli, the National Sales Director of Dangote Cement Plc, highlighted the essential role of multi-stakeholder collaboration — including government agencies, private developers, non-profits, and communities — in driving large-scale and affordable housing development. She also noted that PPP models, coupled with tax incentives for participating construction firms, could significantly strengthen housing initiatives .
