James Gunn Details His Epic Plan: A Four-Movie “Superman Saga” in the DCU


 August 21–22, 2025 — The “Superman Saga” is set to be bigger than fans expected. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has signaled that the story of Superman in the DC Universe (DCU) will unfold across four films, revealing an ambitious long-range vision for the Man of Steel.

According to SuperHeroHype, Gunn remarked during an appearance on The Viall Files podcast, “what is the story that I’m gonna tell about Superman over four movies?” .


This implies that the Superman character—portrayed in the revamped DCU beginning with the 2025 reboot—will anchor a multi-movie arc. Those films are to culminate in a unified, sprawling narrative across the DCU.


The Saga So Far (and What’s Next)


1. Superman (2025) – The first installment of the saga debuted July 11, 2025, launching DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. 



2. Supergirl (2026) – Set to follow on June 26, 2026, this standalone film continues the overarching narrative, with Milly Alcock starring as Supergirl. 



3. Third Film (likely 2027) – Gunn is already hard at work on the next installment in what he describes as the “Super-Family” saga. He has completed a detailed 60-page treatment and is turning it into a full script, with production expected to begin “sooner rather than later.” .



4. Fourth Film (TBD) – Gunn's four-movie framework suggests a grand finale is coming—possibly a Justice League–style team-up or an epic Superman sequel. While details remain under wraps, the intention has clearly been set.
