Tyler Hoechlin, Superman of CW’s Superman & Lois, Expresses Interest in Playing Batman in the DCU

August 26, 2025 — At this year’s FAN EXPO Canada, Tyler Hoechlin—best known for his portrayal of Superman in Superman & Lois—made a surprising announcement: he would like to play Batman in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU). According to MovieWeb, Hoechlin admitted he'd “still want to play Batman,” adding a playful refusal to the idea of combining Robert Pattinson’s version with David Corenswet’s Superman .

Despite acknowledging that Pattinson “did a fantastic, fantastic job” as the Caped Crusader, Hoechlin expressed interest in a new vision of the character—one distinct from Matt Reeves' interpretation. He suggested leaving "the door open for maybe an additional whole new envisioning of Batman versus Superman” .

As the former Superman of the Arrowverse, Hoechlin has earned praise for his nuanced take on Clark Kent—especially during the four-season run of Superman & Lois, which concluded in 2024 . His reflections on stepping aside for David Corenswet—who now leads the DCU reboot—were gracious and supportive, referring to his own role as a temporary bridge for the next actor .

The DCU, led creatively by James Gunn and Peter Safran, is actively developing projects like The Brave and the Bold—expected to feature a new Batman—and Wonder Woman. Gunn has emphasized the importance of giving Batman a meaningful role in the DCU rather than relying on his iconic status alone .

TL;DR:

Tyler Hoechlin, the CW’s Superman, has publicly said he’d love to play Batman in DCU’s The Brave and the Bold.

He praises Robert Pattinson’s Batman but hopes for a fresh take in the new universe.

Hoechlin remains supportive of the new Superman (David Corenswet) and the broader direction of DC’s reboot under James Gunn.
