Three of Nigeria’s top attacking talents in Europe — Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Umar Sadiq — will be desperate to rediscover their scoring touch as they return to action this weekend.
All three strikers have endured frustrating spells in front of goal, struggling to convert chances for their respective clubs after impressive periods in previous seasons.
Boniface, currently on loan at Werder Bremen, has been the most scrutinised of the trio. The forward last scored in March while at Bayer Leverkusen, and his drought now spans 12 matches across all competitions. Since joining Bremen, he has managed just one assist in six appearances without finding the net.
Despite the prolonged dry spell, Bremen have continued to show faith in the 24-year-old, praising his contributions off the ball and celebrating his role in recent wins. However, his missed opportunities — including a quiet performance in his first start against Union Berlin — have only increased pressure for him to deliver.
Boniface's struggles mark a sharp contrast to his electrifying first season in Germany, where he registered 14 goals and nine assists for Leverkusen before injury setbacks slowed his momentum.
Taiwo Awoniyi and Umar Sadiq also enter the weekend searching for goals, with both forwards hoping to regain confidence and form as the season intensifies.
With Nigeria’s frontline options looking to secure places ahead of upcoming international fixtures, a return to scoring form could not come at a better time.
